DEVELOPMENTAL Editing

Developmental editing deals with the overall picture and involves polishing the argument, narrative, and structure. As a developmental editor, I help authors articulate their argument as clearly as possible and decide how to organize ideas so they are most accessible to the reader. 

I offer two types of developmental editing:

Manuscript assessment: In a manuscript assessment, I read your manuscript and provide comprehensive feedback and suggestions for how to improve and clarify the structure, narrative, and argument. For book manuscripts, I cover these aspects for each chapter as well as the book as a whole. Manuscript assessments are priced according to length. 

Interactive developmental editing: With interactive editing, I provide suggestions and changes directly on the document. At the end you will receive a word document with tracked changes as well as an editorial letter briefly outlining the suggested changes. I offer this service either on its own or as a second step following a manuscript assessment. Interactive editing is charged at an hourly rate. 

LINE EDITING

Line editing involves a more detailed look at the clarity and structure of a piece of writing at the sentence and/or paragraph level. This may include suggestions to improve style and flow, or language editing for clients looking for help with their English. Billed at an hourly rate.
